System Stakeholders,

As a parent, student, employee, or friend to the Dekalb County School System, the Dekalb County Board of Education would like to thank you for your support of the young people within our school district.  The School Improvement section of this website is intended to keep you informed regarding the status of our system and local schools.  Additionally, this section will publicize on-going school improvement efforts at both the district and local school level.  Finally, this section is meant to encourage your support and involvement within local schools.  For more information regarding school improvement efforts and how you may support them, contact your local school principal or Jason Mayfield at (256)845-2455.

Description Of Available School Improvement Material

Within each local school folder and the district folder you will gain access to the following items:

School Improvement Plan:  Each of Dekalb County’s Schools have developed a plan for improvement.  The goals and strategies of each plan are based on the needs of our students.  A system plan is available for review within the district folder.

2005-2006 Status Report:  Based on results from spring assessments during the previous school year (spring, 2005), the Alabama State Department of Education assigned each school a position within school improvement (Please see School Improvement status defined for more information).  The status report is broken down for educators and other stakeholders based on specific student groups.

Growth for 2 Years:  This history, documenting our progress since the onset of School Improvement, is presented with a Power Point and offers highlights and challenges within our system and each of the 12 Dekalb County Schools.

 School Improvement Status Defined:  To date, Dekalb County Schools are categorized in the following ways regarding School Improvement:  not in school improvement, school improvement year one (delay), and school improvement year two.  Within this document, each of these categories are defined.
